The state of Florida is blessed with more than a thousand miles of coastline, many of them far from the madding crowd. Amelia Island is the southernmost of the Golden Isles and the only one that is part of Florida's landscape. A pristine barrier island, Amelia is considered the birthplace of the modern shrimping industry. And the fact that eight national flags have flown over Amelia Island-the only U.S. location that can make such a claim-embellishes the island's colorful history.
Adding to the delightful pace of Amelia Island is the gated community of Sea Chase, which is just one of the neighborhoods within Ocean Village. Because preservation is foremost on Amelia, the island is without enormous high-rise buildings. Instead, Sea Chase condos are low-key, just two stories with five units in each building.
The 65 condos of Sea Chase are located right on the beach and are spacious, with floor plans ranging from just under 2,000 square feet to more than 2,600 square feet. Several configurations are available, including ground-floor, three-bedroom, three-bath villas; two-story, three-bedroom town houses; and four-bedroom, four-bath penthouses. Each unit includes a single-car garage and private patios or balconies. Adding to the resort atmosphere are two pools, private tennis courts and walkways to the beach. Membership in the prestigious Amelia Island Golf Club is available.
Craig Bennett, an agent with the REMAX Professional Group, says, "It feels like a real community. Amelia Island is laid-back and the people are super-friendly."
He can't say enough wonderful things about Sea Chase, possibly because he lives there himself. He enjoys the amenities, but what he enjoys most is the homey feel of Sea Chase and the camaraderie of its residents.
"People have bonfires on the beach," Bennett says, "and fireworks on the Fourth of July. It's not very many steps to the beach."
It's clear that Bennett savors life on Amelia Island as he speaks of riding bikes on the beach, hiking with the family or taking the boat out. Every day offers up an opportunity to enjoy life and create new memories.
While many people live at Sea Chase full-time, quite a few units are second homes, which adds to the feeling of privacy and peace that pervades the island.
